Sweeney Todd
BII Winds Demon Barber Todd de Towih is a solidly built, solid fawn boy who will be two years
old in July, 2005.
Sweeney finished his ASFA Field Champion title in April, 2005.
At the 2005 International Invitational Sweeney went BoB out of the FCh stake Saturday. Sunday he finished third. Sweeney went on to the Best in International Invitational runs and was drawn with Montu the Pharaoh hound
and Elley the Rhodesian Ridgeback. There were 20 dogs involved in the
BII runs, so 7 courses. Most of the hounds put in exceptional courses. I
was very impressed with the run put in by Miller, the IG belonging to
Jack Downing and Terry Dickinson. He pushed hard through the entire
course. Sweeney's course was absolutely beautiful (of course, I'm a
little biased). At one point, the RR tried to cut in front of Sweeney
and they collided. I think the entire gallery cringed and held their
breath, expecting the worst, but Sweeney did not go down! Elley tumbled
and rolled and Sweeney jumped over her, never missing a beat! Luckily,
Elly got right up and got back in the course. Sweeney continued pushing
for the rest of the course, never slowing down and making a whippet
finish on his back and head before popping back to his feet with the
lure in his mouth. I know I had goose bumps and tears in my eyes after
his run. I knew it was a great run, but when you're in the Best in II
runs, you have to have something exceptional. I really thought that the
IG Miller and Sweeney would be called back for a run-off. Jack and I
were standing together when the judges announced they had a winner. we
were both quite surprised. At that point, I figured one of the other
dogs had put in just a bit better course and had won.
Ribbons took a while and we were able to calm our nerves a bit with a
beer. Finally Ping went to the microphone and made the announcement that
the winner was....SWEENEY!!! I'm told that I just about fell out of my
chair (glad I could give you a good laugh, John). We still are in shock
that Sweeney won Best in International Invitational. The company of dogs
that have won in the past is daunting. The comments and congratulations
by my friends and people I admire in the sport are overwhelming.
Ruthanna and I are so indebted to our good friends Mike and Karen
Lorenzo. You entrusted us with this gift that you knew was going to be
something special. There aren't words to describe how lucky we are.
